A "DNF" FOR BARKSHIRE AT THE FALL CLASSIC

On October 4th, Jeff and the 46 team returned to Yakima for the Late Model Fall Classic, in which they’d not competed since 05, having instead been focused on the Camping World West Series. It was an exciting win back in 05, but a disappointing finish this time.

“It was a fun weekend,” Jeff said, “but a really frustrating race.  We’d modified our old Tour car to fit the late model regulations knowing we’d be at a disadvantage, but enjoying the challenge and hoping for the best.”  As put by crew chief Steve Dykman, “It felt sort of like taking a knife to a gun fight.”  Then, during practice and qualifying, they thought they’d hit it.  “We were fast and the car felt good,” Jeff said, “and we qualified third out of the 40 car field.”

It wasn’t long though, before the car dropped off and Jeff had a battle on his hands.  “I soon was fighting an ill handling car, falling back, being passed, and knew we were in for a long night unless we could fix it at the half way break.”  As it turned out, they didn’t make it to the break.  “It was no longer the fast car I had in practice,” Jeff said, “and beyond the handling issues, we were experiencing electrical problems.  At about lap 80 we took a look and the decision was made not to return to the track.  For us, the race was over.”

What’s up next for the 46 team and the Centennial Battery Dodge?  “We’re busy pursuing funding,” Jeff said, “to run in the Showdown January 30th at Irwindale, and the full Camping World West Series next season.”
