At the age of 9, Jeff began
his racing career like many other young racers across America
piloting
a quarter midget. During
six years of competition he won four Northwest Championships and
finished 1st, 2nd and 4th
in national events.
After several years off from
racing, Jeffs career reignited in 2002 when he accepted a full
time
position turning wrenches
for Evans Racing Enterprises of the NASCAR Elite Division Northwest
Series. Entering the fall
of 2003 the young Barkshire found his way back into the drivers seat
after
purchasing a super late model
from Evans Racing. By seasons end he had compiled 2 top five and
4
top ten finishes in 6 races.
Impressive results considering Jeff had never been behind the wheel
of a
stock car.
Improving off of the previous
season, Jeff was crowned champion of 2 premier late model shows in
2004. The Miller 200 at South
Sound Speedway and the most prestigious late model race in the
northwest, The Fall Classic
hosted by Yakima Speedway.
2005 found Jeff crowned Rookie
of the Year in the NASCAR Elite Division Northwest Series.
Competing for the first time
in a NASCAR series, Jeff placed sixth in the final championship standings
garnering 4 top five finishes
(including 3 second place finishes) in nine events.
Competing in the final season
of NASCARs Elite Division Northwest Series, Jeff again found success
with a 4th place finish in
the 2006 championship point standings.
